WEST CHESTER—Sewing machines are whirling and needles are being threaded as several local grassroots organizations battle the coronavirus pandemic.
Ginny Kerslake, a Democratic candidate for office in the state’s 167th Legislative District, sewed 100 masks at her home. She gives away the masks and leaves them out at the curb. She said that within minutes they disappear.
Kerslake operates a small sewing business and has been saving scraps of fabric for several years.
She is sewing masks from two layers of high quality quilting cotton. Kerslake has placed a box at the mailbox at 103 Shoen Road, Exton. She will replenish the stock daily, so if it’s empty stop by again. Wash mask before use.
“I like to think of this as the COVID-19 equivalent of the little free libraries. If you are a sewer, how about joining me in this effort and putting out a bin at your mailbox?”
